Learning a new foreign language is never an easy thing, but it does get easier over a period of time because you will learn from your mistakes and eventually pick up certain phrases and words. If you are struggling to even say a simple hello in your chosen foreign language or how to read a certain word, then here are 4 simple tips and tricks to help you on your way. After all, there is nothing scarier then being in a foreign country and not able to speak any of the local dialogue.
FIND A PARTNER
Not a tip or trick that instantly springs to mind, but one that could really help you. The saying ‘two heads are better than one’, has never been more appropriate here. Don’t learn a new foreign language on your own, find a partner to help you. Just having a partner will push both of you to always try just a little bit harder and to stay with it. It will motivate you both.
TALK TO YOURSELF
They say talking to yourself is the first sign of madness, but let’s ignore this here as talking to yourself does help you. There’s nothing wrong with talking to yourself, although it might seem a weird approach. I guarantee that actually speaking to yourself in a foreign language is a great way to practice especially if you’re not able to talk to others all the time. Go off into a quiet room on your own and just be free to talk to yourself.
The trick to learning a new foreign language is to listen. Every language sounds strange the first time you hear it, but the more you expose yourself to it the more familiar it becomes, and the easier it becomes to speak it properly.
HAVE FUN WITH IT
Learning a new foreign language is a creative act and won’t happen instantly overnight. Think of some fun ways to practice your new language: make a radio play with a friend, watch a film with subtitles, or simply talk to whoever you can. If you can’t find a way to have fun with the new language, chances are you aren’t going to learn.
