Data capture is generally accomplished by two methods:

  • manual transcription; or
  • automated capture using software.

This software process is known as Optical Character Recognition (OCR). OCR can only reliably be performed on typed documents and does not generally work well with handwritten text

e-Access provides both manual transcription and OCR.

In addition, it is worth noting that due to its manual nature, transcription is a more costly process than OCR.

This is why customers generally prefer to capture all the text on a page when performing OCR but only key bits of information in the case of manual transcription.

This key information can be indexed and used for cataloguing or as a search tool to sit alongside the scanned images to find a specific image, etc.
